大作『源氏物語』は、５４帖から成るが、『雲隠』の帖は、本文がなく、題名だけである。
なぜ本文がないのか、ながく論争がおこなわれているが、どうやら源氏の死が暗示されているということのようだ。
作者、紫式部は、長編『源氏物語』を描き切ったが、あえて源氏の死は書かなかったということらしい。
書かないことによって、作品に陰影を与え、奥行きを付けた紫式部はすごい。
