こんにちは！マレーシア・ペナン在住の講師Keiko Davyです。こちらペナンは今日はすごい晴天です（多分30度はあります）。皆さんのいる所ではどうですか？

Hello! I am Keiko Davy, a tutor living in Penang, Malaysia!  It is so shiny outside today here in Penang (about 30 degrees I think). What about the place where you are??  

ペナンは豊かな文化の背景から何よりも様々な食べ物で知られています。多くの人が食べ物のためだけにここへ来ます！今日はペナンのデザートをご紹介！

Penang is arguably well known for its variety of food from its rich culture. So many people come here just for food! I would like to introduce desserts today.  

暑さしのぎには？？それなら、チェンドル(左上）かアイス・カチャン（右下）がお勧めです。両方ともかき氷に小豆入り。チェンドルは、米粉からできた緑色のヌードルのような付け合わせ（色はパンダンという葉から作ります）から名づけられました。パームシロップで甘くされた香りあるココナッツミルクが入っていて、とてもエキゾチックなデザートと言えます。アイス・カチャンは、ゼリーやフルーツやコーン（！コーンってデザートには変ですよね）がのってて、シロップがかかっています。個人的には私はチェンドルの大ファンです。

Need a break from the heat? Then you must try Cendol (left top) or Ice Kacang (right bottom). Both desserts fill a bowl with finely shaved ice with red beans. Cendol gets its name from the green noodle-like condiment made from rice flour (the colour is from pandan leaves), and the fragrant coconut milk sweetened by the palm syrup make for a truly exotic dessert. Ice Kacang is filled with jellies, some fruits and corns drenched in sugar and rose syrup. Personally, I am a big fun of cendol. 

右上の写真はアナツバメの巣のココナッツデザートです。そう、アナツバメは中華料理では珍味とされ、ゼラチンのような歯ごたえがあり、よくスープ（甘いスープの場合も）に使われます。

The pic on the right top corner is a coconut desert with edible bird's nest! Yes edible bird's nests are a delicacy in Chinese cuisine and have a gelatinous texture, and often used in soup or sweet soup.  

Texture＝布の生地という意味があるのですが、触った時の触り心地やきめの細かさ、食べた時の歯ごたえという時に使われます。

左下の二つの写真はタンブン・ビスケットと言って、ペナンではとても有名なお土産品です。小麦粉、砂糖、サヤインゲンのペースト、玉ねぎ、ラードと塩からできているのですが、私の好みではありません。

The pic on the left bottom is called Tambun Biscuit, which is considered to be one of the must-buy souveniers in Penang. They are made from wheat flour, sugar, green bean paste, onions, lard and salt, but it is not my cup of tea. 

(my) cup of tea＝(自分）の好物、好きな活動といった意味で使えます。
