‘There are many paths to the top of the mountain, but the view is always the same’

Nov 12, 2017

Some of us like baseball, some like football, some like basketball, and some simply enjoy jogging. There are many different ways to get exercise, but the end goal is exactly the same with each - to keep the body healthy.

Some of us like to eat Japanese food, some of us prefer Western food. Some eat spicy food, and some eat raw foods. But the goal is exactly the same with each - to provide energy for the body and to keep us alive.

Some of us like Yoga, some like meditation, some like martial arts, and some like to peacefully walk in nature. The end goal is the same in each and we are just trying to find tranquility of mind and become centred. Whichever way we choose to get there is not important.

Similarly with religion, some of us are Christians, some Muslims, some Buddhists and some Hindus. But again - the end goal is all the same, and essentially all religions lead to the same outcome.

We argue with friends and family, trying to prove that our way is somehow ‘better’ than theirs, and wars are fought because of religion, killing millions throughout history - yet we are essentially all searching for the same thing.

Trying to prove that ‘my religion is better than yours, and you should believe in my god instead’ is just as silly as trying to fight someone because ‘I prefer the colour red, and you prefer the colour blue’

Who really cares what other people’s beliefs are, if they are not harming others?

Live and let live.

‘Truth’ is universal, and it is about time we realised this. We are all on our own path, and to criticise others for their path, provided they are not harming anyone, is stupid.

The legendary Taoist, and masterless samurai (ronin) ‘Miyamoto Musashi’ once said -

‘there is more than one path to the top of the mountain.’

And each one is no better than another.

The view from the top is the same, and can be appreciated by all.

Thank you for reading this and have a wonderful day!
