Hello there! My name is Ayla and I’ve been an Online English teacher for more than ten years now!
I have a degree in Bachelor of Arts in English and took up some units in Philosophy.
From Japanese to Korean to Chinese and a few other nationalities, I’ve taught English to learners from various cultures and of different age groups. The oldest student I’ve had the honor to have a class with is 92 years old! The youngest, so far, is 5 years old.
English has not only exposed me to students of different language levels and needs but also to individuals of diverse backgrounds—I’ve had classes with authors, businessmen, drivers, doctors, engineers, hotel staff, housewives, kids, professors, retirees, researchers, scientists, teenagers, university students and the list goes on!
I also have an ample experience in editing and proofreading English essays/resumes written by non-native speakers. So if you need help in written English, I’m always available!
Writing (in English) is part of my skill set, as well; a few of my essays have been published in a national broadsheet, a book, and online literary journals.
More about me:
Once in a while, I work as a freelance photographer specializing in portraits and events. But conceptual photography is really my first love. You can view some of my works here: https://www.facebook.com/waveleafphotoblog/
Apart from photography and image editing, I’m also a huge fan of movies and tv series (let’s share favorites in our class!), travelling, cooking, mindfulness, long conversations over coffee, living my ballerina fantasies when no one is watching, playing paparazzi to cats and living extra lives through the books that I read. My favourite writers are JD Salinger, Kurt Vonnegut, Chuck Palahniuk, Frank McCourt, Haruki Murukami, Ted Chiang among others.
My Teaching Style
My style as an English tutor is rooted in my belief that learning shouldn't feel like a bitter pill being shoved down your throat. So you can expect from me an English instruction that is tailored to your needs, encouraging, creative, and fun! I do NOT believe in information overload so dumping so many words and grammar rules in one lesson is NOT part of my approach. We will learn according to your own pace and I will speak to you according to your desired speed. Having said that, I’m also here to help you challenge yourself and reach new heights in learning English.
Moreover, I provide lesson notes that you can review after class which contain the specific lesson finished, grammar corrections, new words and expressions learned in class, and fluency and pronunciation notes.
More importantly, I let this quote by William Arthur Ward guide my teaching: "The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires."
I hope to see you in my class and be part of your English journey!
