Shannon Gallagher Tutor Profile

This tutor is currently on leave.
About me:

My name is Shannon Gallagher. First and foremost, I am an artist, photographer, and English teacher.

I was born in Tampa Bay, Florida in the United States in 1989. I am Floridian through and through.  There are not many natives to my state. Here is where all of those "Florida Man" stories come from.

Some of those stories can get downright, ridiculous.

Such as a man who tried to rob a drive-through Wendys with an alligator at 1:30 am.

Or the man who was arrested for throwing a cookie at his girlfriend. If you heard a crazy story, then it probably happened in my state.

Aside from all of the crazy that happens here, Florida is beautiful.

We have gorgeous oceans, swamps, a wonderful variety of wildlife, we have Disney World and Universal Studios Parks. Can't forget those.

I grew up moving around South Florida and developed a burning desire to see the world.

I traveled to many places in my life; Canada, St. Maartin, the Bahamas, Colombia, Taiwan, Japan, and many places here in the United States. I have been lucky.

It is because of these travels that I grew to love trying new things, learning about new cultures and languages.

My Credentials:

  • I am a native English speaker: born in America.
  • I have a Bachelors in Studio Art and I studied photography extensively at University.
  • I have been an artist and photographer for over a decade
  • I have a 160 hr business TEFL certification
  • I have been teaching since August 2016
  • I have experience with a variety of age groups.
  • I taught English to kindergarten-8th grade and adults.
  • I have taught art to 7th-8th graders
My Teaching Style:
My teaching style is very relaxed. I want my students to be comfortable in the classroom. So I encourage you to grab a drink, take a seat, and relax. Don't worry about making mistakes.

I teach both art and English as a second language.

For both, mistakes are common and that is ok.

Making mistakes is how we learn.

The important thing is to learn from those mistakes to improve upon those points to do better next time.

Language learning and art are meant to be enjoyable.

So, don't feel stressed about it. I am here to aid you in your learning endeavors.

As for learning English, it is important to have a drink close by so your voice doesn't get tired from conversing.

This is very important because I want you to talk! I love listening to your stories and what you're interested in. I will help you with your pronunciation and sentence structures. If there is anything specific you want help with, I will do my best to help you.

However, conversing and practicing your English is the best way to improve.

Please keep in mind that it is important to practice every day.

For that is the only way to improve whilst learning a language. This tip is coming from my own experience, both as a teacher and language learner myself.

I am studying Japanese and Korean at the moment. Just like you, I must find time to study every day or I lose what little improvement I made.

As for art, I will teach you the basics of drawing, shading, the importance of different papers, color theory, and will have a variety of fun art projects that we could do together.

Each lesson will have a supply list. Please make sure that you have the correct supplies so that you can get the full experience.

Remember, there is no wrong way about making art. Everyone has there own style and that is ok. It is my opinion that everyone is an artist. Everyone creates. So if you take my art classes, let's have fun!

Some of my art is below:

For my photography lessons, we'll talk about the rules of design.  We'll discuss using frames, the rule of thirds, cropping, focus, the importance of backgrounds, creating depth, finding patterns, leading lines, and subject matter.  All important things to note about composition.

For these lessons, we'll look at a variety of photographs and discuss what rules of designs were used and how it could have been made better.

Some of my photography work is below:

If your interested in having a lesson with me, I suggest taking a free talk conversation or an art lesson.

I hope to see you soon!
