The precious gift of time

Weekly Topic: What I would be happy to receive as a gift is...

Amy Jost

When asked what I want for my birthday or Christmas, I find it more and more difficult to know what to ask for. I am an older teacher who works full time, so I have most of the things I want and need already.

In addition to that, we are a small family. I am the mother of one adult son and am married. What do the three of us need as adults when our birthdays and Christmas come along every year? The older I get, the more I appreciate 'time' as a gift.

I prefer spending time with my loved ones as opposed to getting a present I can unwrap. Our family usually tries to meet a few times a year for meals and to catch up with each other. The photo in this tutor column is of our last 'time' gift.

As a teacher, mother and wife, I am also very aware of how precious the gift of time is. When we give someone a few hours of our uninterrupted time (= we do not do other things when we spend time with them, for example we do not make a telephone call with someone else when we are together with them), we show them that they are important to us.

Cafetalk is a great platform to give time to each other, as well. Not only are lessons a time to learn from each other, but the one-on-one sessions allow us to give each other our full attention. This is just one reason I love my work here. Please consider booking a lesson with me today. Let's give each other the precious give of time!
