When I feel spring is here!

Weekly Topic: What marks the start of spring in your country?

Teacher Asuka

Hello everyone (^^), this is teacher Asuka.
I hope you are all doing well.
Today I want to talk about "When you feel the spring".
When the temperature rises, many flowers appear, especially Sakura, the cherry blossom, when I feel spring is here! Sakura is the national flower of Japan, you see.

Sakura is a symbol of spring in Japan and is found in 'Manyou-syu', one of the ancient Japanese scriptures. Sakura was imported from China in the Nara period, and it is said that sakura viewing spread in the Heian period because Emperor Saga was the first to start viewing sakura. Thereafter, this custom seems to have spread from the aristocracy to the common people.
Although many flowers were transferred from China to Japan, there are a few reasons why sakura is so special to the people of Japan.

First, Sakura seems to be so pretty and beautiful.
Second, it seems that people only look at sakura for a short period of time, like a week, which is why they think sakura is something like sacred objects.
Third, many people wait to see sakura for a whole winter.

Sakura season is just around the corner, which means the transition from winter to spring for many people in Japan. I'm looking forward to seeing beautiful sakura, cherry blossoms this year.

Thank you for being with me as always.
See you next time!
