Hello!  My name is Amy and I am excited to meet you! I'm a native born Californian still living in sunny, southern California. I love anything to do with coffee, (Starbucks is my weakness), journaling about life, and doing any outside activity with my husband. 



My English experience:

I had the opportunity to teach English overseas in Morocco for two months in 2009, and fell in love with the ability to connect with people from all over the world and be able to teach them the language I love and am passionate about: English! I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in English from Bob Jones University of South Carolina in 2013, and began to teach English at a non profit organization for over a year and a half while I also worked at Wells Fargo as a banker and financial advisor. 

In 2015, I worked for a language school in Irvine,CA, teaching beginning, intermediate, and advanced classes such as American Culture, Advanced Listening and Speaking, and Pronunciation. My students came from Japan, China, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Russia, and many more countries.I also did one on one tutoring with beginner English speakers and loved watching them make improvements in English and gaining confidence along the way. My husband and I moved closer to our family in California and now I am substitute teaching at an elementary school and hoping to build interaction with the world again! 

How I will be teaching:

- My lessons focus on learning how to speak fluently and comfortably in English and taking charge in a conversation! Because I have taught beginner, intermediate, and advanced English levels I am able to adjust the learning progress to your comfort level, but also am able to give you that little extra push to improve. 

- I like to have an introductory lesson so I can meet you and find out more about you and allow you to meet me and feel more comfortable. (I know from experience if you're not comfortable with your tutor, you're not going to learn as much!)

- I will allow free speaking time- listening, taking careful notes and correcting at the end.

- I will also do a structured speaking exercise where we practice role plays, conversation starters, and scenarios using the worksheets I provide. Repetition and feedback is very structured and offered every 3-4 minutes.

- Because I have experience in the financial world I also like to practice banking conversations and go over vocabulary used in the financial world. 

- I also love to use American culture to learn idioms, slang, and news. I will use clips from tv shows, news articles, and music lyrics and have the student act out, read, or sing (if they want to) what they watched or listened to and learn how to properly pronounce and use the language in its proper setting.

- After every lesson I will send a feedback sheet so we can track your progress in pronunciation, grammar, and new vocabulary and you can feel confident that you are making progress. 

- I love to have FUN with English and make the lesson enjoyable for you as well!I am very open to feedback and I respect every student sharing with me what is helping or hindering them in the lesson.
