Hi everyone, I am Kai, nice to meet you.

I am from Tokyo, Japan and currently live in Australia. I am teaching Japanese lessons and Singing lessons from beginners to advanced.

Japanese lessons

Everyone has a different learning style and different needs, so my lessons are tailored over time for each student. Regardless of your level or learning style, I strive to make lessons enjoyable and practical.

Beginners

My beginners lessons focus on the foundations of the language including key grammar structures and everyday vocabulary. I use the direct method of teaching which means classes are conducted fully in Japanese. This gives you maximum exposure to the language and helps improve your listening and speaking skills a faster rate. Vocabulary and phrases are explained with visual aids on decks I prepare for each lesson. When suitable, I can also explain things and answer any questions in English.

Please let me know if you have a specific textbook that you want to use, otherwise I can recommend one that is suitable for you.

Intermediate

Intermediate lessons focus on conversation and pronunciation. I will teach you colloquial words and natural sounding phrases used by native speakers. You will also learn to make longer and more complex sentences to handle a wide range of daily tasks, as well as a variety of ways to express your thoughts and feelings.

As a qualified vocal trainer, I can teach you proper techniques to improve your pronunciation. We will practice using lines of a drama, movie or song using a method known as shadowing. This improves not only pronunciation, but also listening and intonation all at once.

Advanced

Advanced students will learn how to tailor their words and phrases for various situations from casual to formal and personal to professional. Japanese is highly contextual so I will teach you understand social and cultural contexts from younger to older generations. You will learn to voice your opinion on more advanced topics and equip yourself with phrases and words you will need in a working environment. 


 JLPT

All my lessons will equip you with the knowledge you will need to pass each level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. I can teach you exam techniques, go over actual questions, as well as run you through the listening section.



 Singing Lessons & Vocal Training

I graduated from the Tokyo School of Music and also have a diploma in music research. I underwent gospel music training in the United States, performing at various churches in Los Angeles. I have industry experience on TV and stage. I also performed in the back chorus with a variety of artists such as Eikichi Yazawa (a famous Japanese rock singer), Akiko Wada (singer and talent) and HY (J-Pop group).

I participated in a volunteer concert project to teach singing and performing, at nursing homes and facilities for children, delivering a message of love and life.

I also performed in various musicals.


 Music as therapy

There are specialists that use music as treatment for a range of mental disorders. While I'm not a professional therapist, I know music has many functions such as expression, healing, moving, and encouraging. I think about the function of my music every time I sing. I will teach you how to use and train your voice as the instrument to achieve this.

In voice training, I will train your voice for work, presentations, or speeches. You will learn to have more impact and influence through your words.

We will learn how to sing and harmonize with some of your favourite songs, in English or Japanese. This will improve your language skills at the same time. We will try different genres and styles to improve your vocal range and strengthen your vocal chords. You might even discover a new genre or artist.


 About me

I moved to Australia with my partner 2 years ago. I have many opportunities to meet foreigners from very diverse cultures. I understand the struggles of living in a foreign country, adapting to the culture and learning a second language.

I’ve worked in various industries including music and entertainment, sales, retail and education.

I have completed over 420 hours of training as a certified Japanese teacher. I teach both Japanese and music at a school in Melbourne, as well as online.

I love meeting people and learning about others. I look forward to getting to know you in a lesson.
