About me:
Hello, and thank you for stopping by. My name is Kelly and I am from Spokane, Washington in the United States. My family and I recently moved back to America after living in Nara, Japan for four years.

Before moving to Japan, we hosted homestay students from Mukogawa Women’s University who were attending (MFWI) in Spokane. After hosting these students, our family fell in love with the Japanese people and culture and decided to look for jobs in Japan so we could be closer to our former homestay students. That is how my family got interested in relocating to Japan in 2015.

A few interesting facts about my hometown and state: Father’s Day originated here, Gonzaga University is located in our town (where Rui Hachimura played), and Washington produces more apples than any other state in America. I enjoy gardening, traveling, LOVE college basketball especially the ZAGS, have been studying Japanese for three years, and have a black Labrador named Momo.

Teaching Background:
I have a Bachelor of Arts in English with a technical writing emphasis. I also obtained my TEFL certification in 2019 from the International TEFL Academy. I have written professionally creating monthly newsletters and promotional materials for a variety of medical companies. While in Japan, I taught high school English including grammar, Greek and Latin roots, reading, writing, and vocabulary to students representing roughly nine different nationalities
at a small international Christian school. I also taught elementary English enrichment, and did some English tutoring as well as conversational English tutoring using the Side by Side workbooks.

Since returning to America, I have taught ESL classes part-time to homestay students at a private Christian school and recently obtained my temporary ACSI Secondary English teaching certificate and ESL endorsement.

Teaching Style:
I want my students to feel comfortable and relaxed practicing English with me. Having lived in Japan and studied the language, I know how challenging learning another language can be. I want my students to know mistakes are OK and are a normal part of the learning process. Whether practicing conversational English, teaching an elementary student grammar rules, or working with high school students on pronunciation and vocabulary, I am a very encouraging and patient teacher.

I enjoy building a friendship with my students, getting to know them personally and interacting with them on a more casual and comfortable level. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned English student trying to maintain your fluency, I look forward to helping you reach your English goals.
