Hello, I'm Yumiko. I saw a huge turning point when I was 30 and since then, I started studying English by myself. I've never studied abroad. I passed Eiken Grade Pre-1.

I was an administrative staff until the age of 42. I started teaching at a major eikaiwa school at the age of 43. I've been teaching at the eikaiwa school for 17 years.
In the past, I've also had the experience of teaching kids that lived nearby or gave private lessons to housewives.

I didn't expect that I'd be an English teacher because when I was 30, my English was poor. When I learned English, I used to take a class which focused on pronunciation and it built the fundamentals that I have now. I repeated the English phrases, I would write them down and read them out loud until I was able to say the phrases, phrases that I wanted to remember・sorted the articles in different files...I made steady efforts for a few years.I found this interesting so I continued doing so, but I didn't have a clear goal that I wanted to become an English teacher. Also, I noticed that it wasn't necessary because I didn't have the opportunity to use English in my daily life and as a result, I've hit a bottleneck and asked myself many times "Why am I working so hard?" or "I don't feel any progress".

I think everyone has had the same experience of hitting a wall. But I believe that even at a slower pace, if you can continue, you'll get through at some point. It's a repetition. I believe everyone has their reasons for studying English, whether it's because they like it or they think it's fun, I think that's a good enough reason. For me, I mostly listened to NHK radio programs and studied English. After my kids went to bed, I studied for about two hours and that was my "happy hour". (*^-^*)

Whenever I'm teaching or making teaching materials, I'm always looking for "something new" as I try to make the lessons fun even for myself. I'd be extremely happy if you could also feel my excitement! I'm looking forward to sharing them with you.

Thank you for reading.
