Hello there, my name is Ian 

I am from a popular seaside town called Blackpool in England but now live in a small spa town in Croatia that is the hometown of my wife, Ingrid.

Courtesy and consideration for others are important to me. I am an easy-going, native English speaker, specialising in teaching Business and conversational English language to adults.

My personal interests include travel, especially as I have worked in several countries. I enjoy walking, reading (mainly non-fiction such as biographies and self-development books).  I did have a pilot's license for small planes but have not used it for a long time.

I am a member of a volunteer group that provides online support to emergency teams on the ground during disasters such as hurricanes.

Reason for Teaching

Before becoming an English tutor, I was a Project Management professional for 25 years and provided training and mentoring to numerous staff including career guidance.

The satisfaction of teaching others throughout my career helped me realise that this was something I feel passionately about.  So helping students with their English language skills and career goals in a stress-free environment was a logical next step.

Teaching Style

My teaching style is easy-going and supportive and I'm particularly patient and passionate about helping others. One of my core values is to be considerate to others that extends to my teaching approach and the patience that brings with it.

It is important that we identify what your goals are and then agree on lessons that directly related to your goals and suits your learning style as no two people are the same. 

I teach practical scenarios for business, travel and everyday situations designed to help students be prepared and confident.

I have a Batchelor of Science degree in Computing and Manufacturing which I obtained from the Open University in England when I was 50 years old and working full time as a Project Manager. So I am no stranger to the commitment sometimes needed to study in your spare time.

I am a certified Teacher of English as a Foreign Language and certified in teaching Business English.
