Kirsten Tutor Profile
Hello! Thank you for visiting my profile page. My name is Kirsten, and I live in the beautiful state of Washington in the U.S.A. I am a professional college teacher with over 18 years of ESL teaching experience. Currently I teach academic ESL to international students at a local community college. I have been teaching on Cafetalk for almost five years.
I have a Master's degree in Education and a Bachelor's degree in Asian Studies. I studied Japanese and lived in Japan for many years, and I have a deep appreciation for Japanese language and culture. In some ways I feel more Japanese than American! I spent most of my Japan years in Kyoto, one of the most fascinating and beautiful cities in the world.
I practice voluntary simplicity, so my interests tend toward the simple and sustainable. I love to knit and sew, hike and camp, walk my dog through the park, explore the outdoors with my family, and cook and eat good organic food.
My teaching style allows for mazimum student talk time. I ask a lot of questions but also encourage students to take the lead in discussions. I believe that learning is optimized in a comfortable learning environment.
Review lessons offer a chance to revisit vocabulary, natural phrasing, and concepts that arise during discussions. Some students find them really useful, but unless you're going to actively use them, you might be best off with a no-review lesson. Review lessons are priced to reflect the additional time it takes to compose a thoughtful written summary.
Thanks for stopping by! I look forward to sharing my time, skills and experiences with you on Cafetalk!
