Today I watched an interesting TED talk video which talked about learning a language in 6 months.
What do you think, is it possible?
Speaking from my own experience, I believe there is some truth to this statement. Of course it also depends on level you want to achieve. Reaching fluency or native level may not be possible in such a short time, however daily conversation level is achieveable in my eyes!
Last year I spent 6 months in Japan, speaking mostly Japanese... all day every day! By the time I left Japan I was able to communicate with people and have friendly conversations.
This year I started learning Spanish in Mexico. In 4 months, I had reached a level where I could speak with native speakers and have conversations.
I am not able to speak about advanced topics in these languages, however, if you study hard and set your mind to something, I think it is definitely doable! It also helps if you can live in the country that speaks the language.
Of course this is not always possible and that is why platforms like CafeTalk are so great... bringing language learning straight to your home!
