"Picto Chat" Lesson Introduction!

Jul 13, 2018

Dear Cafetalk Community,

hello! How are you? I wanted to introduce my new lesson called "Picto Chat!" It's a picture description exercise that ellicits a response from the student. By having to use complete sentences, however brief, it challenges the student to use their imagnation and express their thoughts in English.
This is a 30-minute lesson that provides several pictures during the lesson for you to describe. I will listen to your pronunciation as you describe the pictures out loud and I will gently correct your English if necessary or explain the way it could be said more naturally.
[True Story:] ~ Recently, one of my students had to take the picture description quiz for the speaking section of the Eiken Pre-1 Grade Examination. Not only did she pass, she got the perfect score!
[Tips:] ~ The following are some of the things I suggested to my student that got the perfect score!
[Things to observe and express the details about the story:]
- What is the overall scene about?
- Where does the scene take place?
- What is the primary action of the scene?
- What are the characters feeling?
- What are they trying to accomplish?
- What are their obstacles (or what is in the way of getting what they want)?
- What is the weather like?

I hope I can help you with your English speaking skills using this "Picto Chat" Lesson! Come give it a try! "I won't bite!" ~ (American Idiom/Expression)

Warmest regards,
