Recently, I heard an idiom that I haven’t heard in a while. I thought I would share it.
Today’s idiom: “Isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black.”
This means that someone is criticizing someone for something they also do; someone accuses someone of something that they also do.
Daughter about sister: Mom! She is so messy! She always leaves her clothes everywhere and never cleans up anything!
Mom: *laughs* Well, isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black. I just picked up your socks downstairs.
This idiom is about hypocrisy.
Hypocrisy: saying you have standards or beliefs but your behaviour does not match.
Example: Your friend says that people should never drink alcohol, but he sometimes drinks alcohol.
Have you heard this one before? When could you use this?
