8 weeks of Spanish!

2018年4月28日

As many of you know I started studying Spanish 8 weeks ago and I thought I would give you an update on how it is going!

I wanted to learn Spanish as quickly and cheaply as possible so I moved to Mexico. I don't plan to leave until I can reach daily conversation level!

Month 1: During the first month, it was very difficult. There are some similar sounding vocabulary in English and Spanish, but speaking was very difficult for me. I bought a notebook and started writing down all the new vocabulary I learnt! I tried having conversations with locals but it was very basic... such as 'what is your name?'

Month 2: During the 2nd month, I started attending Spanish school twice a week and I love it! Learning the basic grammar has really helped me. I feel really confident now talking to new people and I can have conversations about food, family, hobbies, work etc! I take every opportuity I can to talk to people at the bus stop, in the supermarket, in the park and at my dance school. I also attend events where I can listen to Spanish, such as walking tours & cooking classes. I feel confident to meet people who only speak Spanish now and go out for a drink with them.

Well month 3 starts next week and I will continue at my same Spanish school!

My boyfriend is also studying Spanish and he prefers to self-study. He is Japanese and has found the pronunciation in Spanish and Japanese is very similar so he has found that part of Spanish much easier than me!

Are any of you learning Spanish?
