I think it's generally true that Japanese people have trouble saying "no" directly. Here are some helpful ways to turn someone down amicably and politely. It's unavoidable to say "no" sometimes, right? You might as well find the most unobtrusive and pleasant way to say "no." I hope the flashcard above helps you assert yourself and still feel comfortable saying "no."
