Nouns are naming words. They can identify people, places, or things. There are six different forms: common, proper, concrete, abstract, collective, and compound. Today, we’ll take a look at concrete and abstract nouns.
Concrete nouns are words that physically exist. These nouns can be countable, such as pencil(s), computer(s), and textbook(s) or uncountable such as water, coffee, and oxygen. The key point here is that for countable nouns you need to add “s”, “es”, “ies” and etc; uncountable nouns are always singular.
Abstract nouns are ideas, thoughts, and feelings. Unlike concrete nouns, they do not physically exist. Some examples of abstract nouns are freedom, power, and perseverance.
Can you identify which ones are concrete nouns and which ones are abstract nouns?
