Most Difficult Pronunciation Sounds in English

Aug 21, 2017

What I have noticed while teaching here on Cafetalk is that almost all of my students, from all over Asia, share similar pronunciation problems.

The most common difficulties are the L/R, TH, V/B, SH/C/S, and ending -ED and -ING sounds.

How are these sounds mispronounced??

L/R = L is often mispronounced as R

TH = often mispronounced as D or L

V/B = V is often mispronounced as B

SH = often mispronounced as S/C: "She" will sound like the letter "C" or "Ship" will sound like "Sip"

ending -ED = this will often be confused because this can be pronounced 3 different ways, depending on the root word. The words WANTED, HOPED, and PLAYED all sound different

ending -ING = this sound will often be mispronounced by not pronouncing the ending -G sound, making it sound like IN instead on ING: "Runnin" instead of "Running"

----------------------

If you feel like you are having difficulty pronouncing any of these sounds (or others), take my reading lesson!! We will read a book or article together, and as you read, I will correct your pronunciation. You can also learn new vocabulary words from this lesson!!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hope to see you soon in my Reading lesson so that we can go over any pronunciation difficulties you have!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Have a great day!!
