English grammar in Maths

Thirzah

Written maths problems and explanations need to be grammatically correct so let's look at some key points.

Firstly how good are you with prepositions? If you have looked at Maths in English Part 1 and Part 2 then you will have done a lot of studying and reading which will help you now.

If not then maybe your general English comprehension will help you to succeed.

However, maths phrases are sometimes very specific. For example, Three goes into 12, four times.

Next, the grammar is more general and could be applied to any communication in English.

The grammar is explained below as well as a reminder about countable and uncountable nouns.

If this is confusing then join me in a Maths or English lesson to discuss the differences in meaning between many and much, less or fewer.
Maybe countable and uncountable have not been explained to you before and you would like to know more.
We can practice with or without Maths.

Don't give up try completing these sentences.

For example, Last night I did homework for 3 hours, but tonight my homework only took me 1.5 hours.
How much less time did my homework take me?

Good luck working on maths in English. Come and find me if you need help or clarification.
