How we can all live eco-friendly (with vocabulary!)

Weekly Topic: How to Live Eco-Friendly

Kevin O.

It can be overwhelming to think about being eco-friendly. After all, how can we do anything when large companies are polluting so heavily?

In the end, all we can do is modify our daily behaviours. Make sure to put recycling, trash, and compostables in the correct place. Don't litter outside. Don't pour oil or harsh chemicals down your drain.

We can also join, or start, social media campaigns. Have you heard of "#trashtag"? This is a social media movement encouraging people to clean up beaches, forests, and parks, and post the results. If enough people join these movements, and they become trendy, then we can make a difference as individuals.

If enough people change small behaviours, we can actually make a difference. This thought helps me, and I hope it can help you.

Vocabulary:

Eco-friendly: Literally "earth-friendly". This means you try your best not to pollute the Earth.

Modify: To change something.

Compostables: Things, like food, that naturally rot away and can be used in soil.

Litter: In its verb form, this means "to throw trash". It can also be used as a noun.

Social media campaign: Something on social media that is trying to become popular or well-known.
