Looking for an interesting podcast?

Hello Cafetalk Community!

How are you doing? I'm doing fine! Just teaching English all day every day. . . well, almost all day! On the weekends, I'm particularly busy with many young students and adults! Perhaps, due to their schedules, it is more convenient to book my lessons on the weekend!

Anyway, it's pretty hot here in Canada. I live in a middle-sized city in Canada and it's in the middle of Canada (latitudinally and longitudinally). It's been pretty different from Los Angeles, where I used to live just 3 and 1/2 years ago. There was no "rainy season" in Los Angeles. There was no "rain" in L.A.! It's raining a lot here in Canada, so I guess this is the "rainy season" here. I know you have them in Asia, too! I hope the weather is treating you well over there!

[The reason why I'm writing you a message is that I wanted to share with you a cool podcast called Serial.]

The podcast starts its first season with a well-known case called "Adnan Syed." Please read the description below:

It's Baltimore, 1999. Hae Min Lee, a popular high-school senior, disappears after school one day. Six weeks later detectives arrest her classmate and ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed, for her murder. He says he's innocent -- though he can't exactly remember what he was doing on the January afternoon. But someone can. A classmate at Woodlawn High School says she knows where Adnan was. The trouble is, she's nowhere to be found.

Do true crime stories interest you? I think this interesting podcast will pique your interest. It starts out with an interesting case in Season One (please see the description above). However, I'm currently listening to Season Three about what happens in a courthouse in Cleveland, Ohio. The state is almost split in two with the basic mix of black and white people. More often than not, white people are in higher positions.

Do you know how the American court system really works? I believe the court system is so dysfunctional that a case can look completely different as when it first went into the system. It is a money-making factory where people fall through the cracks all the time. Perhaps, it works for most people, but what about the rest of us that do not know or understand how the American court system?

Season Three covers real-life courthouse cases and the judges that are assigned to the case. It tells the truth about how the US courts are run and it often has nothing to do with "the truth." Money also counts because you can hire attorneys that will do anything and everything to "win." They will walk the fine line between "unethical" and "illegal." Not all attorneys are "immoral," but most seem to be.

I hope you find the podcast interesting. I also found it on the most popular podcasts on Google search. I am posting their weblink below. (To clarify, I am not receiving any money or products in association with this podcast). I am just sharing out of goodwill.

ABOUT SEASON THREE
Serial is heading back to court. This time, in Cleveland. Not for one extraordinary case; instead, Serial wanted to tackle the whole criminal justice system. To do that we figured we'd need to look at something different: ordinary cases. So, we did. Inside these: ordinary cases. We found the troubling machinery of the criminal justice system on full display.
