One of my favorite shows was Saturday Night Live. In the time of VHS tapes, relatives from the US would send copies of the show featuring Mike Myers of Austin Powers fame. I still watch Saturday Night Live on Youtube. I am such a fan that I went on the NBC New York tour to see the set and slept on the street to watch Tina Fey's 30 Rock Live on the same set.
As a fan, I read a book its history and my favorite quote is by its producer Lorne Michaels. He says
“The show doesn’t go on because it’s ready;
it goes on because it’s 11:30.”
I love this motto because it is what life is about. We are never truly ready for what we need to do. We just need to be present and do our best. The same goes with learning a language such English. There is no time but now to speak. Students feel sorry about their lack of vocabulary that they don't talk. Yet, I value students who make the most out of our class. If I see a positive attitude, I work harder to bridge the gap for my students. In this case, the motto applies. The student is never ready. He just needs to appear because it is time for class.
