How to cope with stress before exams
Jul 2, 2019 |
Take 3 deep breaths. Right now. Are you ready?...
Did you do it? Good.
Exams are challenging.
Lucky for you, they are designed to be completed.
They are not impossible.
You can do this!
Here are 4 ways to cope with stress before an exam.
1. Eat Well
You cannot take on a challenge without a good diet. Eat foods that are good for you, and that you enjoy. Don't have too much caffeine or sugar. Your brain needs fuel!
2. Sleep Well
Sleeping is so important. If you don't get enough sleep, you will not do well on any exam. Sleep helps recharge your brain. Sleep around 6 to 8 hours every night. Try to have the same sleep schedule. Go to bed and wake up around the same time, every day. Not just during the week! EVERY DAY!
3. Be Yourself
Take some time to do something you enjoy. Cramming before a test is a bad idea. Remove the stress in your life by watching TV, reading a book, or talking with your friends. The exam has a beginning and an end. There is more to life than this exam.
Is it important to study hard? Yes!
Is it also important to know your limits? Oh, yes!
Don't lose yourself worrying about exams!
4. Stress Less
Stress is damaging to humans. It changes our body and our minds. You have to manage it carefully. Don't always think and worry about the exam. Keep your mind busy with other things. Here is one of my favorite things to think about when I am stressed about something:
"Can you do something about your stress?
If yes - don't worry about it! Why? Because you can do something about it! Worrying is a waste of time!
If no - don't worry about it! Why? Because you cannot do anything. Worrying is a waste of time!"
It's natural for people to be stressed sometimes. The important thing is not to stay stressed. You have to treat your stress like you treat influenza - you need the right medicine!
Coping with stress is a skill you must learn. I hope you can master this skill before your next exam! Good luck to you, and try not to worry!
What do you do to relax? Feel free to share!
