After having such a brilliant day out enjoying the tea in Uji (Kansai, Japan) we decided to experience the Taiwanese version of this town.

High up in the mountains lies a small area called Maokong.
It is famous for some of the best tea in Taiwan, and as well as the numerous tea houses, restaurants (serving tea related food of course!) and temples, there are some great hiking trails and even a tea museum to be explored!

We took a gondola up to the mountains for 30 minutes (you cannot hike up there) and enjoyed walking around the peaceful village for 90 minutes, before stopping at a highly reccomended tea house right on the edge of the mountain.
We sampled some different teas, and ended up buying some to bring back (although we are not big on material posessions, tea is one thing we love to buy from all over the world!) with us.

After our fill of tea, we started one of the hiking trails and visited some temples, before a storm started!

This photo shows 'the calm before the storm'. But soon, the heavens opened and it poured down!!!!!!

Heavy rain, thunder and lightning!!!

The gondola was stopped and there was no way to get down from the mountain!!!!

Fortunately there was a taxi waiting at the top of the mountain, and offered us an extremely cheap journey, all the way down to the nearest subway! In fact - it actually cost less than the gondola would have done!!! :-)

All in all - another brilliant day out in wonderful Taiwan.

Yesterday was another awesome day which I will write about shortly.
It involved scuba diving, VIP passes to watch a big baseball match, delicious food - and ghosts......maybe?!
